Quote of the Day

From the Idiot Division Dept.:

"A citizen of America will cross the ocean to fight for democracy, but won't cross the street to vote in a national election." -- Bill Vaughan (1915-1977)

As a generalization, this is exactly backwards: In neither case, does the citizen (or way disproportionately in the case of Iraq, permanent resident) do either wholly voluntarily; he or she too often has to be made to serve or to vote.

(Yes, I don't know who this guy is either; all I could quickly find was that he was a journalist and author and wrote a nationally syndicated column,"Starbeams.")
