Signs of a Possible Coming Apocalypse

Three from the front page of the 9 December 2005 NY Times:

First:

"When Christmas Falls on Sunday, Megachurches Take the Day Off

"Some of the nation's most prominent megachurches have decided not to hold worship services on the Sunday that coincides with Christmas Day, a move that is generating controversy among evangelical Christians at a time when many conservative groups are battling to 'put the Christ back in Christmas.'"

So now we know who's really against Christmas as a religious holiday:Christians.

Next:

"Medical Journal Criticizes Merck Over Vioxx Data"

Well, actually, Merck kind of deleted from the report of its clinical trials for Vioxx the simple... well, it was statistically so minor one would think.. the simple fact that, well, three people died in the course of the trial.

And then there is, from the "No Sh!t, Sherlock!" Dept.:

"Qaeda-Iraq Link U.S. Cited Is Tied to Coercion Claim"

A modestly intelligent recipient of torture eventually learns to give the torturers the apparent information that they want in order to... well, it's a survival instinct thing. That's why torture, as opposed to competent investigation maybe, relying on allies, which is a slow, laborious process, that's why torture is such a good thing and it would be so very, very horrible if we (or, you know, others on our behalf, not that we'd know it's going on) would o longer be able to benefit from it. I mean, I would have to agree with the administration that if torture ended, the War on Terror would be as good as lost.
