W in Touch

Not.

Taking a question at the World Affairs Counsil Monday, 12 December, W guesstemiated that his war in Iraq has caused the deaths of approximately 30,000 Iraqis.

Estimated as in doesn't know an actual number.

So, the question is, I guess, that the Leader of the Free World (well, a niche of it) is not curious enough to care to know? Or that he knows less about what's going on in Iraq and with the war than you or I? Whether it's deliberate or not or just the result of intellectual limitations, it's scary....

(From Mark Gongloff's online column at wsj.com:

"Mr. Bush said Iraqis had paid a heavy price in the war, and in an unexpected question-and-answer session with the audience, he estimated that about 30,000 Iraqis had died. The White House later said that number was drawn from media reports and wasn't an official toll.")
