Too Funny Not to Post

My beloved Alan Abelson in Barron's (granted it was the day before New Year's Eve, maybe:

The pool of early Republican [2008 presidential] hopefuls includes, besides John McCain, a couple of lame-duck governors, New York's George Pataki and Massachusetts' Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Condi Rice; McCain apart, a pretty shallow pool, in other words.

(Emphasis added.)

Please. McCain occasionally has a good rap, as we used to say, but substantively (so to speak) the guy is an absolute lightweight.

Abelson's downside is that as good a Wall Street journo as he is, he's a political lightweight himself, being a party-liner and all. I can't stand non-political journalists that feel compelled to show their political smarts and in so attempting show that they actually don't have the smarts in the first place.
